In this modern age where a lot of inventions are coming up day by day, the Airborne Lasers have discovered a 2,000 years old Golmine in City of Leon, Spain. It is a wonderful discovery in this decade and the credit goes to Airborne Lasers.
Airborne Lasers have managed to uncover a Roman goldmine that dates back to first century BC. They have made the discovery of this goldmine beneath a vegetation and cropping in the northern areas of Spain. These scientists are predicting the age of this unique channel network and reservoirs to be more than two thousand years old. The discovery has been made in Eria river valley in the city of Leon in Spain. They are certain that this was utilized by the Romans for the extraction of gold. Interestingly the largest gold mine of the open cast category of the Roman Empire is known as Las Medulas. This too is located near the valley in the same city of Leon. Till now scientists were unaware of the fact that their search was leading them to this highly valuable metal towards the south east direction.
This beautiful old mine which was hidden deep beneath the heavy vegetation was uncovered by a team of researchers belonging to the University of Salamanca. The process used by the talented team included use of light detection along with ranging laser system. The LiDAR was connected to an aircraft. The lasers from these two different methods were then used to beam at the ground. The different patterns form by the reflections of these beams was cautiously measured. After the measurement these patterns were then used to make a comparison with geographical information for the creation of a unique visual display of all the possible features that are hidden on the surface of Earth.
This wonderful discovery will lead archaeologists and different scientists to develop a more enhanced understanding of the living patterns of Romans. Their mining patterns and methods from the first century BC will also be comprehended with less hassle. The total volume of Earth that has been exploited is far greater than what has been conventionally perceived. The works and different methods performed are highly impressive especially with the achievement of capturing actual rivers. The valley hence holds great significance when it comes to the context of Roman mining in the north eastern areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
These researchers have made quite a few statements about their findings. It is their belief that the complex methods that were used by the Romans for the storage and transportation of water in the mines were actually an imitation of different techniques utilized by the Egyptians. The research team is hopeful about making new discoveries of the Roman practices regarding mining in that particular area using LiDAR. The Mine Engineers have made many discoveries in the past, and it is one of the wonderful discoveries in the field of gold mining.
This unique airborne detection system of laser is different from the conventionally used methods of aerial photography. This particular system is useful in the visualization of different archaeological remnants underneath patches of vegetation along with areas that have been deeply ploughed. The team intends to continue their work using this technique in order to find out more about different mining procedures of minerals in the Roman Empire.
